Xbox and Paramount Pictures are teaming up in a competition to win a prize package inspired by the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.
In particular, participants can get their hands on a custom black Xbox Series S console featuring the video game movie versions of protagonist Sonic and antagonist Knuckles, as well as two controllers inspired by the hedgehog and the echidna. These aren’t just your standard plastic gamepads, though – bizarrely, they’ve been given “textured” coatings to simulate Sonic and Knuckles’ fur.
On Twitter, fans were quick to point out that these furry controllers don’t really go well with palm sweat:

…Or food scraps, for that matter:
And cheeto dust

If the console and/or (terrifying) controllers are your thing, you can enter for a chance to win them on Twitter by retweeting this Xbox tweet with the hashtag #XboxSonic2Sweepstakes. This input method is available in many countries, including Canada. The competition ends on April 4.
We may need glasses because these controllers look blurry.

As the title suggests, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a sequel to the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which opened just before the start of the pandemic with solid box office performances and generally positive reviews.
In the new film, Sonic (Ben Schwartz) teams up with Tom (James Marsden) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) to stop Dr. Eggman (Newmarket, Ontario’s very own Jim Carrey) and Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba) explore the world with the Master Emerald. It is striking that the sequel, like the first film, was mainly shot in Vancouver.
Meanwhile, Sega’s next game in the long-running Sonic video game series, Sonic Frontiers, is set to hit consoles and PC in late 2022.
