The PlayStation Network is offline, but not for everyone on PS5 and PS4

Players are currently experiencing a number of issues with the PlayStation Network, affecting the PS Store, PS Now cloud gaming services, as well as any games, apps or features that require a network connection. PlayStation’s status page currently says “some services are experiencing issues” and notes that the issues started around 8:30 a.m. ET this morning.

The problem doesn’t seem to affect everyone as some The Verge staffers had PlayStation Plus errors while playing Elden Ring, but for others it works just fine. There could be a regional aspect to the problem – so far everyone we’ve checked in the Midwest and Canada has a fully operational PS5, but in New York everyone is getting errors. Among readers, the reports are more widespread, there are people in the Midwest with issues, while some others can connect. Sony’s last update on the issue came at 9:41 a.m. ET and there is still no timeline for a recovery.

Some players report problems with their PS Plus subscription and get error messages when they try to launch games or access cloud storage. If you get that message, don’t sign up for another year as it won’t help you get back online. It’s unclear if these issues have anything to do with the just-released system update for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 systems, as those who were still online were able to update without any issues.

PlayStation’s Japanese Twitter account also confirmed the network outage. “PSN™ (including PlayStation® Store) may not be available at the moment”, a translated version of the tweet reads† “We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers. We are in the process of research and restoration, so please wait.”

There is currently no timeline for when PlayStation services will be fully restored. The Verge contacted PlayStation with a request for comment, but didn’t hear back immediately.

Update March 23, 9:53 AM ET: Added notes regarding regional reporting of the outage.
