EA’s next football game could drop FIFA branding in favor of EA Sports FC

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, EA has internally approved a decision to change the FIFA franchise name to EA Sports Football Club, or EA Sports FC. This could be true as EA is reportedly struggling with football’s governing body. EA also applied for the title of “EA Sports FC” in the UK and EU last October. In other news, Konami’s eFootball series has just made the cut for the Commonwealth Esports Championships, due to take place later this year. This is interesting, as the Commonwealth Games Organization chose the game series over FIFA.

As a reminder, eFootball was released in September 2021 and replaced the Pro Evolution Soccer series. Aside from the Konami eFootball, other games that will be part of the Commonwealth Esports Championships are DOTA 2 and Rocket League.
